Kites Movie Review by Taran Adarsh

Kites Movie Review by Taran Adarsh

Everyone gathered to make a fun movie, but no one had a plan to do it or any interest in figuring out how. That, unfortunately, is what a viewing of Anurag Basu's 'Kites' feels like. It feels like the kind of movie that might have been designed by a marketing software program for MBA studio executives. And it seems more like a product than an attempt to tell a story.

There's no way around it - 'Kites' is repetitive, flat and completely forgettable. Its fitfully unfunny, never exciting or engaging, modestly entertaining, excessively dimwitted, and finally just too darn long - in a nutshell, its relentlessly average. The film leaves a bad taste, not only because of its bad-luck timing, but also the staleness of its achingly inept script.

Rakesh Roshan has doled out one of the most moronic screenplays of the year, full of holes that will be obvious even to those who aren't looking for them. And despite the presence of the talented modern age Ed Wood Mr Brett Ratner, 'Kites' doesn't even come close to matching the somewhat sketchy Rush Hour films for thrills or laughs. Anurag Basu had a tiff with the Roshans and was not involved with the editing; but this formulaic countdown-to-oblivion Bollywood flick is so sluggish and impersonal, it could very well have been directed from two continents away by a remote-controlled robot.

But of course there's the stunning, gorgeous, eye popping cinematography by Ayananka Bose, who captures Hrithik at his magazine-cover-best in every frame. Regrettably the DOP's hard work is shabbily complimented by the set pieces which are painfully predictable right down to the inevitable finale. And it doesn't help that Hrithik phones in another money-grubbing performance as a nameless ABCD, who never moves any part of his face until the climax, when he smiles with relief that the movie's over. The surgically enhanced Barbara Mori doesn't impress either - the Roshans expect the audience to find something intrinsically funny about Mori mouthing 'Mai ullu ki paththi hu', but the Wonderbra-flaunting bombshell has little else to offer. The chemistry between the leads is as hot as the harmony shared by Amrita Arora and Isha Koppikar in 'Girlfriend'. Its a shame, since the 'fake' Hrithik-Barbara off-screen romance was used to publicize the flick. There is nothing remotely steamy about the waterfall sequence, unless you're 12 and are in a boys' school. And as a result of a plot device gone awry, a blasé Kangana Ranaut comes and goes in the twinkling of the eye.

'Kites' really is producer Rakesh Roshan's film more than Anurag Basu's, and Roshan reverts to his usual Modus Operandi. Its all terribly uninteresting as it plays like somebody spliced random moments of a rejected Yash Raj idea into a cliche-riddled but self-serious love story. Roshan and Co. would have saved millions and millions of rupees had they just used footage from the films they ripped off to make this film - while one key scene is frustratingly reminiscent of the French comedy 'Priceless', the big action sequence gallingly features stunts of Yuen Woo-ping's classics.

Final verdict? 'Kites' fails as a comedy. It fails as an action thriller. It fails as a romantic dramedy. In fact, the only category I would put it into is that of a failure.

I am the craziest fan of Hrithik roshan... I always prefered him over amir or sharookh...
This is the biggest disappoinment he can ever give to his fans.. I feel like he cheated all his fans... I would have forgiven if he had acted in 5 or more flop movies in last 2 and 1/2 years rather than giving all the hypes and then giving this biggest disappoinment at the end..
The only way I can forgive myself for making my hus to take half day off and paying 11 dollars per head for watching this yarn is by thinking.. I just donated the money to the team worked behind it..

No matter what the reviews say..no matter how the box office turns out...this is the biggest disappointment he can ever give...

Every bit of this movie was awesome. I wathched it despite of all these biased reviews and found movie really exciting. Taran Adarsh you better stop reviewing and do some other job because you don't do an honest job. How could you give a f***** movie like Housefull great reviews when it's not even an ordinary movie. Everything was perfect in Kites from acting to action and what not. People go watch this movie regardless of this biased reviews like f***** A******* period.

Today I watched the movie and found movie really disappointing. Although the performance of hritik is excellent, the movie lacks thriller, comedy, thriller and whatever is the field of movie. I always admire the review of taran adarsh. Comments should be posted against his review after thinking thousands time.

Obviously, this faggot Taran Adarsh has either hidden agenda with the Roshan's or simply doesn't know how to review a movie. If someone can give the moie "Houseful" a better rating than the movie "Kites", that talks a lot about their reputation and talent.

I don't think Kites is going to be a big time super hit movie. However, it is still easy on eyes and I would recommend others to go see this kinda thriller but basically a romantic movie.

Some of the scenes are breathtaking and Hrithik has acted his best ever. Hrithik and Barbara look so good together. Their chemistry is phenomenal. Barbara is NOT just another good looking girl. She can act really well and has a banging body. She can even put Aishwarya to shame so very easily.

I would give this movie 3.5 out of 5.

Watching this movie was the biggest waste of time. I would not even wish it upon my worst enemy. Hrithik has put his career on the line by releasing such a crap and senseless movie. His acting was truly very bad even his side actors and co-stars did a better job than him. The ending was truly pathetic. Everyone in the cinema burst out laughing as it was truly a joke of an ending. Taran next time i am reading your review before I go watch a movie. I would not even rate this movie.

Hell with the bad reviews
i jus want to ask some simple question...
till when we will keep looking for regular bollywood stuff...?
till when we will keep our brains at home & then watch a movie..?till when you are afraid of accepting anything REAL in Movies....?

till when movies will not be appreciated for the truth & emotional content....?????????

Who ever is saying that movie is bad....or not worth....Go and check your BRAIN & HEART....either you are fully Mindless creature or You are totally HEARTLESS creature....& why am i saying this....???? Because you were unable to sense the essence of a true love story....a love story which unfolds itself @ its own pace.....is it really necessary to have HITCHCOCK's kindaa suspense if its related to some Car chases & Action....Is it necessary to be a TITANIC or DEVDAS kindaa tragic story if its for falling in love......

Come on guyssss........please stretch the spectrum of your Mindset.....

you guys love to complain that nobody makes true cinema in Bollywood....& when someone does.....then people have issues with that......they don't like that.....

This Duality is the core of our Indianism....please....lift yourself up.....!!!!

KITES is a awesome flick.....who promised to be a True Movie....& it fulfills all the promises it kept....!!

My Rating: 4/5

Reasons/Review: Kites is not just a masala bollywood flick....it promised you to give an honest film about Love....& it is a pure soul touching love story....
The moment you keep a mindset of Kites being a bollywood flick....it fails for you...instantly....

But if you are a LOVER of cinematic experience....if you are a lover of "Truthfulness of Love"....if you are lover of "Good movies"....you will love Kites to the core....it will touch you....will make you laugh....will make you cry....will make you feel that "why in India we don't make such truthful movies...."

As an Indian we all love Masalas and 100-150 dancers dancing....& hero heroin singing around Trees...at the end we love to see that "Have a happy candy" kind of movies...

Hrithik roars in the movie....Barbara sizzles on the screen....together they remind us the "Dream On Screen Couple".....then melodies takes you to the essence of love....and twists make you to wonder what's next...!!

All you need to do is to sit....and have your heart and senses right @ the cinema hall...
you got to have sensibility to understand english dialog & habit of reading subtitles...(which i know in India is not very common) At the end i would like to say "WATCH KITES FOR ITS TRUE FEELING....ITS LOVELY CINEMATOGRAPHY....HRITHIK-BARBARA performances...& (FINALLY) IF YOU UNDERSTAND LOVE."
TARAN you SUCK man!! big time.i will be never reading ur reviews again..you are dishonest guy.

This movie is definitely 4/5. Taran Adarsh looks like you do not have any heart and have never loved anyone. This is a great movie in terms of acting, cinematography, music, romance, thrill, basically everything. Everything was perfect according to story. I had goose bumps too at some moments and when you get that you're watching something that's not ordinary. It's a ridiculous review by Taran. I don't know what was going on in his mind while he was writing this f***** review. People go watch it yourself and decide. I bet you will not be disappointed.

I dont know whats wrong with all the guys out here singing praises of this poor movie. i bet you are the people who dont seem to have watched any good movie. if u like this movie, then who knows eating shit may be your favorite pastime.
There is no story, just a bearded man chasing the two losers. no chemistry, no action, no thrill, nothing. even some of hrithik's dance steps were from the old coca cola advertisement. just jumping from one car to other,a millionaire's sun who doesnt have anything else in the world to do than chasing two dimwits, cheesy lines between serious shades of the movie to make u laugh, showing every scene twice trying to produce suspense or what, i cant make out! only gud aspect is the cinematography. everything else is shit. seems like hrithik himself figured it out by the end of the movie and jumped off the cliff. the ending was a joke, what an ''AMAR PREM KATHA''.
so if u like this movie, your taste is cheap and u should check for symptoms of downs syndrome. and who is that lame guy who wants taran adarsh to review it like foreign newspapers. if every review should be same then whats the point honey???

I am shocked that there were any good reviews for this obscenely crap movie. All of you who have put up any remotely positive reviews should get off the drugs you are on. Especially the asshole who wrote a thesis telling others to stretch the spectrum of their mindsets, etc.... Honestly - comparing this total waste of time to a Hitchcock film.. you really have balls, or are a certified retard. You deserve a good beating for the mindless rubbish you posted. If the Roshans have any sense or humanity they should pull this movie from circulation and refund full ticket charges to us unfortunate ones who watched this poor excuse of a movie. In all fairness the cinematography was good, the rest was pure torture. The ending was pathetic.

As much as I love Hrithik Roshan, I have to say this movie sucks. It was the antithesis of the enjoyable, entertaining, exciting movies that he usually acts in. Why Hrithik, why? Ms. Khan, chicago. I'm sure he'll fare much better in Bhansali's next...there's no doubt about it.

Kites in short is a piece of crap. so much expectation and so little in substance. poor story, no emotional quotient and absolutely poor plot. Kabir bedi & family look like they have been cut & paste from a 1970's hindi movie plot. Waste of money !

I liked Hritik's movies and his acting.. till we saw kites.. Kites is pure TIME WASTE.. there is nothing which makes sense.. Only ppl who may have liked it are just brainless fools who just would watch anything that moves ??

I would never see any such hyped movies specially coming from the screenplay/director guys..

This reviewer - Tarun Adarsh is actually kind with his review here.. I would have put in one WORD- GARBAGE
